Fusible Machine Appliqué Continued

Step 5. Turn each piece to right side. If pattern piece has no open end, pull fusible interfacing away from fabric and make small slit through interfacing only. Carefully turn right side out, gently pushing out curves from inside. Finger-press fabric seam edges. Do not press with iron. Step 5
Step 6. Center placement guide on ironing board with background fabric on top. Position prepared template fabrics in order on background fabric following outlines on placement guide. Slide placement sheet out from under background fabric. Step 6
Step 7. Place pressing cloth over fabric, and steam press template fabrics to background fabric. Turn background fabric over and press from wrong side. Hint: Misting with water will help fuse pieces, plus a sheet of aluminum foil placed under background fabric helps trap heat and makes bonding easier. Step 7
Step 8. Place stabilizer paper under background fabric in area of fused appliqué pieces to be stitched. Using monofilament thread in needle (regular thread in bobbin), machine appliqué (with blind hem or zigzag stitch) fused fabric pieces in place on background fabric. When block is completely appliquéd, remove paper. Step 8

I love this method!
I can't imagine any other way to applique since I tried this! One thing I do differently is that when I'm sewing the interfacing to the fabric, I drop the feed dogs and put on a darning foot. I use free-motion sewing instead of machine-guided. It's much easier to get into small areas and to sew curves this way.
