The Log Cabin Variation block is great to use when highlighting novelty prints featuring motifs that can be selectively cut.

Cutting Instructions

Novelty print
... one 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" square . (To center a motif in the square, make a 4 1/2" plastic template, including the seam allowance line. Place plastic template on fabric, center motif using seam allowance lines as a guide.)

Yellow logs (light side)
one each of the following sizes
... 1 1/2" x 5 /12"
... 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
... 1 1/2" x 7 1/2"

... 1 1/2" x 8 1/2"
... 1 1/2" x 9 1/2"
... 1 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Pink logs (dark side)
one each of the following sizes
... 1 1/2" x 4 1/4"
... 1 1/2" x 5 1/2"
... 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
... 1 1/2" x 7 1/2"
... 1 1/2" x 8 1/2"
... 1 1/2" x 9 1/2"

After cutting "logs", piece block together using the following diagrams as a guide. Press seam allowances toward the last log added.
