Assembling the Block
Step 1. Referring to Diagram I, sew green 1 1/2" fabric strip to 26" background fabric strip, press seam allowance toward green fabric. Cut pieced strip into 16 segments 1 1/2" x 2 1/2".
Step 2. Using Diagram II as a guide, piece small four-patch unit together. Make 8.
Step 3. Piece 2 four patch units to 2 background fabric squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" (Diagram III) to make large four-patch unit. Make 4

Step 4. Mark 1/4" seam allowance intersections on background fabric, Piece A, and red fabric, Piece B. Match and pin dots together—sew seam from edge to edge. Press seam allowance toward red fabric. Repeat the steps for piece B/R. (Make 4)

Step 5. Using Assembly Diagram, piece rows and sew together to make Friendship Star Variation Block.

Suggested Layout: Using side strip fabrics (3 1/2" x 12 1/2") to match Friendship Star Variation Block, use Morning Star place mat assembly instructions to make matching place mats and napkins.
