Sewing Curved Seams
Using marking pencil of choice, mark the center of curved edges. Pin edges (right side to right side) together at the center and ends. Finish pining together, easing in fullness. Stitch seam slowly; do not sew over pins, remove each one as approached.

Step 1. Referring to Sewing Curved Seams and Diagrams I-A and I-B, for template piece and color placement, make 8 pieced triangles. Using Diagram I-C as a guide, sew A/B and A/C pieced triangles together to make quadrant. Make 4 quadrants total.

Step 2. Referring to Diagram II, layout quadrants paying close attention to design. Sew quadrants together to make pieced square.
Step 3. Using appliqué method of choice, appliqué black fabric circle, piece D, to center of pieced square (see Appliqué Placement Diagram). Working from the back, cut away pieced square layer under appliquéd circle leaving 1/4" seam allowance.
