Cutting Instructions

Background
... 4 rectangles 2" x 3 1/2"
... 4 squares 2" x 2"
... 2 squares 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"; cut twice diagonally to make 8 quarter-square triangles
Red print
... 4 squares 2 3/8" x 2 3/8"; cut once diagonally to make 8 half-square triangles
... 1 square 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

Green print
... 8 squares 2" x 2"
... 4 squares 2 5/8" x 2 5/8"
Floral print
... 1 square 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"; cut twice diagonally to make 4 quarter-square triangles
... 4 squares 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"; cut once diagonally to make 8 half-square triangles

Assembly Instructions
Step 1. Using Diagram I as a guide, sew background 2" x 2" square to green print 2" x 2" square. Make 2 units with background square on right side; make 2 units with background square on left side.

Step 2. Referring to Diagram II, sew background 4 1/4" quarter-square triangle to adjacent sides of 2 5/8" x 2 5/8" square to make pieced-triangle. Sew floral 3 7/8" half-square triangles to short sides of pieced-triangle to make large flying geese unit. Make 4 total.

Step 3. Sew red print 2 3/8" half-square triangles to 4 1/4" quarter-square triangle to make small flying geese unit (Diagram III). Make 4 total.

Step 4. Using Diagram IV as a guide, sew 2" x 2" green print squares to small flying geese units to make top and bottom rows. Sew flying geese units to opposite sides of 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" red print square to make middle row. Sew rows together. Make 1.

Step 5. Using Diagram V as a guide for unit placement, sew units together to make rows. Sew rows together to make Royalty Variation Block.

I agree with Oldsewer,it would help knowing the yardag, for a full size or queen.

Oldsewer, This pattern is for one block, not an entire quilt. We have many free quilt patterns available on our site, but this section is used as a reference for block names, step-by-step instructions, and a number of other reasons. We hope you find something you like just as much, or perhaps your local quilt shop could help you figure yardage requirements for the size you want.

Why do you not post the yardage requirements?I want to make this quilt but would like to kmow how much ydg it requires before I go to the fabric store.
