... 36 squares 4 1/4" x 4 1/4", cut twice diagonally to make quarter-square triangles - yield: 144 triangles
... 3 squares 14 1/2" x 14 1/2", cut diagonally twice to make quarter-square "setting triangles" - yield: 12 triangles (2 left over)
... 2 squares 7 3/4" x 7 3/4", cut once diagonally to make half-square triangles - yield: 4 triangles.

... 36 squares 4 1/4" x 4 1/4", cut twice diagonally to make quarter-square triangles - yield: 144 triangles ... 2 strips 1 1/2" x WOF (width of fabric)

Piecing the Blocks -
1. Referring to Diagram I, make 72 pieced-square sub units.

2. Referring to Diagram II, sew pieced-squares to 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" cream and blue print squares. Sew rows together to make Ohio Star Block. Make 18 total.

QUILT TOP ASSEMBLY
3. Note: The setting triangles on all edges and corners are cut oversized to allow trimming quilt edges even after assembly.
Referring to Assembly Diagram, arrange and sew 6 diagonal rows using blocks, cream 14 1/2" quarter-square triangles, and cream 7 3/4" half-square triangles. Trim quilt edges even.

4. Sew red #1 1 1/2" x WOF to sides of quilt top; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining red #1 strips to top / bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch blue print 4 1/2" x 63" strips to sides; trim even with top /bottom. Stitch remaining blue print strips to top / bottom; trim even with sides.

5. Using appliqué method of your choice, center hearts over seam lines in alternating pieced-blocks and appliqué in place. Heart Template - PDF format

QUILTING AND FINISHING
6. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Quilt as desired. Bind quilt with blue print fabric.
