Bonus Pattern for a Holiday Table Runner
Cutting Instructions: (Includes pieces for both blocks)
Cutting directions involve the use of "template diagrams". If you've never worked with templates or would like a refresher course, refer to Working With Templates before cutting out the block pieces.

Background |
Green print ... Two squares 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" cut once diagonally. Yield: four half-square triangles (Piece B) ... Four squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" (Piece C) ... Four rectangles 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" (Piece D) ... Four strips 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" (Piece F) |
Assembly Instructions: "Modified Union"
Step 1. Mark match points on Piece A and Piece B triangles. Referring to Diagram I, match points and sew triangles to square.
Step 2. On wrong side of cream 2 7/8" square, draw a diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram II, place cream square on red 2 7/8" square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares. Make 8 total.
Step 3. Using Diagram III as a guide, assemble 'flying geese' unit and pieced square unit. Make 4 total.

Step 4. Referring to Assembly Diagram, layout sub units to form "Modified Union Block" and sew together.

Step 5. Assemble center sub-unit, using Diagram IV.
Step 6. Sew Pieces C and F together to form top and bottom rows. Sew Piece F to each side of center sub-unit. Referring to Assembly Diagram, layout rows to form "Nine-Patch Block" and sew together.
