Step 1. Using Diagrams I, II and III as guides, piece one Unit 1, four Unit 2, and two Unit 3.

Step 2. Using Assembly Diagram as a guide, position units to form block design. Sew Unit 2 sub units to center sub unit (Unit 1). Sew remaining sub units (Unit 3) to make Modified Memory Block.

Step 3. To stabilize fabric for writing message/signature, cut a piece of freezer paper the size of Template A, minus the seam allowance. Press paper (shiny side down) to the wrong side of Piece A in the block. Using a waterproof, permanent fabric pen, write message/signature on right side of Piece A. Remove freezer paper.

Teriffic! I'm working on a quilt for a soon-to-arrive grandchild of a friend. My husband, who cross-stitches wanted to contribute and this is the perfect block to include, using his cross-stitched rectangle as patch A. lsweaver2
