Cutting Instructions
1/4" seam allowance included in measurements (Need help cutting pieces using the rotary cuter? Refer to our Rotary Cutting lesson page.)

Cream ... Color #1
Piece A ... four 2 1/2" squares
Piece B .. two 3 1/4" squares, cut squares twice diagonally to make 8 quarter-square triangles. Not sure how to cut quarter-square triangles? Link to rotary cutting lessons.
Piece C ... four 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles.

Green ... Color #4
Piece A ... five 2 1/2" squares. (See assembly diagram for piecing guide)

Violet ... Color #2
Piece B ... two 3 1/4" squares, cut squares twice diagonally to make 8 quarter-square triangles.

Magenta ... Color #3
Piece D ... two 4 7/8" squares, cut squares once diagonally to make 4 half-square triangles (see assembly diagram for piecing guide).

Assembly Instructions
Step 1.
Using Diagram I as a guide, make Sub Unit 1. Draw line on wrong side of fabric. Layer square with triangle and sew directly on line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from seam line. Press seam allowance toward triangle. Make 4 total.

Step 2. Using Diagrams II-A and II-B as a guide, make Sub Unit 2. Make 4 total.

Step 3. Using Diagrams III-A and III-B as a guide, assemble Lily block.

Making it Easy.

I make this block easier. I make or use template for the step 1 and part 1 of the 2nd step. In the 1st step I strip piece the 2 colors as shown in 4th picture. I then cut the unit the size it needs to be with a template . I do this for the quarter square triangles in step 2 also. Remember to turn your template to get the colors where you need them. This is much easier than trying to handle tiny pieces I hope that this makes sense. I love this block.

I really like this block because I like a bunch of white or cream as a background of quilts. Maybe those are called "traditional" quilts? I know I like the white/cream backgrounds because then I can see the pattern better. Have been a quilt club member for 7 years but still a beginning due to hesitating to cut into fabric. But now I'm learning I must make mistakes to become a good quilter. Thanks for listening.
