Plaid
... Cut 2 squares 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"; cut diagonally twice to make 8 quarter-square triangles
... Cut 3 squares 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"; cut diagonally to make 6 half-square triangles
Red print
... Cut 1 square 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"; cut diagonally to make 2 half-square triangles
Green print
... Cut 1 square 4 3/4" x 4 3/4"
Cream
... Cut 2 squares 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"; cut diagonally twice to make 8 quarter-square triangles
... Cut 6 squares 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"; cut diagonally to make 12 half-square triangles

Step 1. Using Diagram I as a guide, sew one 4 1/4" plaid quarter-square triangle, one 4 1/4" cream quarter-square triangle, and one 3 7/8" cream half-square triangle together to make pieced square unit. Make 6.

Step 2. Using Diagram II as a guide, sew one 3 7/8" cream half-square triangle and one 3 7/8" plaid half-square triangle together to make pieced square unit. Make 6.

Step 3. Referring to Diagram I, sew one 4 1/4" plaid quarter-square triangle, one 4 1/4" cream quarter-square triangle together to make pieced triangle. Make 2. Using Diagram III as a guide, sew two 3 7/8" red print triangles to one 4 3/4" square. Sew previously made pieced triangles to remaining sides of square to make square in square unit. Make 1.

Step 4. Referring to Assembly Diagram, sew units together to make rows. Sew rows together to make Hither and Yon Block.
