Frolic Variation

CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS

Yellow Fabric ... Color #1
... 1A - Cut 4 rectangles 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
... 1B - Cut 1 square 5 1/4", sub cut twice diagonally to make 4 triangles
... 1C - Cut 1 square 4 1/2"

Green Print ... Color #2
... 2A - Cut 4 rectangles 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
... 2D - Cut 4 squares 2 1/2"

Dark Pink ... Color #3
... 3E - Cut 2 squares 4 7/8", sub cut once diagonally to make 4 triangles

Med. Pink ... Color #4
... 4B - Cut 1 square 5 1/4", sub cut twice diagonally to make 4 triangles
... 4D - Cut 8 squares 2 1/2"

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1. Draw diagonal line on the wrong side of square. Layer square with rectangle and sew directly on line. Cut away excess fabric and press seam allowance towards triangle (Diagram I). Make 4 each. Join 1 of each type to make Sub Unit 1. Make 4.

Step 2. Draw diagonal line on wrong side of medium pink square. Layer on dark pink triangle. Sew directly on seam. Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from sea line and press seam allowance toward triangle (Diagram II). Make4.

Step 3. Stitch yellow and medium pink triangles together (Diagram II). Add pink triangle to make Sub Unit 2. Make 4.

Step 4. Sew 4 Sub Unit 1s, 4 Sub Unit 2s, and a yellow square (Block Assembly Diagram) together to make Frolic Variation Block.

TRADITIONAL SETTING

The following is a suggested setting for the Frolic Variation block.

The blocks are set "block to block", 3 blocks across and 4 blocks down (12 blocks total). Note placement of blocks in the Assembly Diagram below. The setting below estimates a 1" finished (1 1/2" cut) inner border, and a 6" finished (6 1/2" cut) inner border.
