Piecing the Block
Step 1 - Pieced Square Unit
On wrong side of 3 7/8" background fabric, draw diagonal line with the marking tool of your choice. Layer square with 3 7/8" red/yellow print square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares (Diagram I). Make 12 background and red/yellow print and 4 red/yellow print and dark red 3 7/8" pieced-squares

Step 2. Referring to Assembly Diagram for placement, sew pieced-square units, background 3 1/2" squares and dard red 3 1/2" squares together to make rows. Sew rows together to complete Crown of Thorns Block.

Thanks so much for catching our typo! While templates would be required to make this design an exact 12" finished block, use following directions to make a 12 1/2" finished block: Where directions above call for 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", substitute 3" x 3", and where directions above call for 3 7/8" x 3 7/8", substitute 3 3/8" x 3 3/8". This will make a 12 1/2" finished quilt block (raw-edged completed block will measure 13").

Not the correct size

I made this block and the instructions say that it makes a 12" x 12" block. Sad to say it doesn't. The Finished block actually makes a 15.5" block and not the 12" I actually needed. Can someone help me reduce this to a 12" block. Thanks
