Planning, Cutting, and Marking
Jinny's lovely design uses mirror-image patches of several different prints to create a kaleidoscopic effect. Carefully study the template placement instructions (on templates) and cutting diagrams (below) before you begin cutting patches. Trace Template A-E shapes on template plastic, including grain lines, match points, and mirror lines; cut out on traced lines. Follow cutting instructions on templates to cut A and B patches. For Templates C-E, place plastic template on chosen area of print, and use permanent marker to trace several fabric motifs on template to match on print when cutting remaining patches and reverse patches. Mark around template and cut out. Repeat to cut remaining template shapes, following instructions on templates. Mark match points on wrong sides of all Template A-E shapes before beginning construction.
Border Cutting Instructions
Note: Cutting instructions for Templates A-E are given on templates.
*Green/blue border print
from narrow stripe cut:
4 strips 2 1/4" x 83"
from wide stripe cut:
4 strips 5 7/8" x 106"*
Blue texture
4 strips 2 1/4" x 84", cut on lengthwise grain
*Cut border strips first, then template shapes. Center 4 matching border strips of each size on identical fabric motifs of your choice.
Quilt Top Assembly
1 Referring to Diagrams I through VI, make 16 quilt center units, aligning match points during construction.

2 Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps. Sew 2 rows of 2 units each. Sew rows together to make pieced square. Make 4. Stitch 2 rows of 2 pieced squares each. Stitch rows together.
3 Note: To use Jinny Beyer's method for framing a quilt with border prints, visit her website, www.jinnybeyer.com, and click on Quilt Tips. From the Border Prints menu, select Framing a Square. (Or, for general mitered border instructions, click on Lessons, then Mitered Borders on this site.) Stitch green/blue 83" strips to quilt, centering each on identical motif, and starting and stopping 1/4" from quilt corners. Sew and trim miters. In same manner, stitch middle and outer borders, centering same motif on each 106" green/blue strip.
