Cutting Instructions
(cut in order listed)

Dark print
   1 square 6½˝ x 6½˝
   4 strips 3˝ x 6½˝
   4 rectangles 3˝ x 4˝
Cream print
   4 rectangles 2½˝ x 3˝
   2 strips 2˝ x 9½˝
   2 strips 2˝ x 6½˝

Piecing the Block

Referring to Diagram I-A, sew together 2 print 3˝ x 6½˝ strips and 1 cream 2½˝ x 3˝ rectangle to make long pieced strip. Make 2. In similar manner, stitch together 2 print 3˝ x 4˝ and 1 cream 2½˝ x 3˝ rectangles to make short pieced strip (Diagram I-B). Make 2.

Sew 2 cream 2˝ x 6½˝ strips to print 6½˝ square (Diagram II). Stitch 2 cream 2˝ x 9½˝ strips to top and bottom to make pieced square.

Referring to Diagram III, sew short pieced strips to sides of pieced square. Stitch long pieced strips to top and bottom to make Garden Path Block.

Double(Full) Size

I stumbled across this block back this summer and decided to try this pattern as my first ever quilt. I made a double or full sized quilt and it turned out beautifully. My blocks were a bit smaller, only 10", so to do a full size I made 35 blocks (7X5) and added a 4" border. I used 4 patterned fabrics plus the white and border. I had 1 yard of each pattern plus 2.5 yards of the border fabric and 3 yards of white. There was some leftover in the end but I was happy to have the extra in case I messed up! The way I determined how much I needed was to find the size of a double mattress and added the amount I wanted for overhang and worked out how many 10" squares I would need to get to that size.

Response to King Size question

For the Fujita Maze bed quilt patterned in the March/April 2013 issue of McCall's Quilting, adding 1 row of blocks to one side would yield a quilt 102 1/2" x 88 1/2", which would allow for a 13 1/4" drop on each side of a king mattress, and an 8 1/2" drop at the bottom. Remember to add 14 1/2" to the cutting length of each longer side border!

What adjustments to fit my king size bed? Love the pattern and made a 4 square one for my daughter this week.

Response to Twin Size question

Hello, We are unable to provide a pattern for an alternate size of this Fujita Maze quilt. However, by omitting 2 rows of blocks, you would end up with a 60 1/2" x 88 1/2" quilt, which would fit nicely on a twin mattress, allowing for a 10 3/4" drop on each side and a 13 1/2" drop at the end of the bed.

I love this quit patter and can picture it made up in twin size. Do you have the material requirements and directions for twin size quilt Fujita Maze?
