Cutting Instructions
(cut in order listed)

White print
   4 strips 2˝ x 6½˝
   12 squares 2˝ x 2˝
Dark print
   4 strips 2˝ x 6½˝
   4 squares 2˝ x 2˝
Light print
   4 strips 2˝ x 6½˝
Medium print
   4 strips 2˝ x 6½˝

Peicing the Block

Draw diagonal line on wrong side of dark 2˝ square. Referring to Diagram I-A, place marked square on white print 2˝ x 6½˝ strip, right sides together, aligning raw edges. Stitch on drawn line; trim away and discard excess fabric. Open and press to make pieced strip. Make 4.

In similar manner, make pieced strips using assorted light, medium, and dark 2˝ x 6½˝ strips and white 2˝ squares (Diagram I-B). Make 4 each.

Referring to Diagram II, stitch together 4 pieced strips to make pieced square. Make 4.

Sew together 4 pieced squares to make Buzzsaw Block (Diagram III).

I recommend you check your seam allowances for an accurate scant 1/4". Your four unfinished blocks at step 2 should each measure 6 1/2" square. I recommend you click on Lessons, then An Accurate 1/4" Seam Allowance, for a very helpful video and downloadable PDF reference. Thanks!

pinwheel pines help needed

I am working on this pattern and developed a problem. at step 2, i have 4 matching pieced squares all same size. when i rotate them to perform step 3 none of my pieced squares line up! Anyone else have a problem with this pattern or is it just something I have done wrong?
