Cutting Instructions
(cut in order listed)
Cream (center square)
1 square 3½˝ x 3½˝
Black (center frame)
2 strips 1¼˝ x 5˝
2 strips 1¼˝ x 3½˝
Tan (background)
5 squares 3 1/8˝ x 3 1/8˝
2 squares 2¾˝ x 2¾˝
Brown (points)
5 squares 3 1/8˝ x 3 1/8˝
Piecing the Block
- Sew black 3½˝ strips to sides of cream 3½˝ square (Diagram I). Sew black 5˝ strips to top and bottom to make framed square.
- Draw diagonal line on wrong side of tan 3 1/8˝ square.Place marked square on brown 3 1/8˝ square, right sides together (Diagram II). Sew ¼˝ seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Open and press to make 2 pieced squares. Make 10.
- Referring to Diagram III and watching orientation of pieced squares, sew together 2 pieced squares to make pieced rectangle. Make 2; sew to sides of framed square.Sew together 1 tan 2¾˝ square and 3 pieced squares to make top/bottom row. Make 2. Sew to top and bottom to make Rocky Mountain Puzzle Block.
