I am a self taught quilter and love our Troops. I am going to start this quilt on Monday. Once done it will be raffled off and proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warriors. It is my way of saying Thank You for all they do for me.

I am happy that you were able to modify the pattern to achieve your preferred results for the sashing stars. The designer of this quilt intentionally sized the 1 3/4" red corner squares so that they would NOT form a point at the end of the sashing piece, thereby making the piecing a bit less fussy for beginners. Your plan for this pattern in summer fabrics sound lovely!

I just finished a 4-block version of this pattern to make a Scrappy Country Christmas table topper/wall hanging. The pattern I downloaded from this site stated the small squares that create the star points should be cut 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" Fortunately I cut just a few pieces before I started sewing a practice unit. The points did not line up correctly at the end of the sashing piece. The points were to small to line up correctly with the center block of the star. I HAD TO INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE SMALL SQUARES TO 2" x 2" TO GET THE PROPER SIZE STAR POINTS. It was a very easy fix. Happy that I discovered the correction before cutting all my squares. The finished table topper is nice! I will make it again with summer fabrics.

I love patriotic quilts. I'd say i am an intermediate quilter but i love this quilt.

While I am a self taught beginner quilter, I have made a few Intermediate patterns. You won't know you can or can not do it until you try and it won't get done until you start. I will be downloading this a trying it very soon.
