Piecing Strips of Fabric |
PIECING SASHING, BORDER & BINDING STRIPS
Whenever possible purchase enough fabric to cut borders on the lengthwise grain (parallel to the selvage edge). When you must piece sashing, borders, or binding strips, sew together with a 45 degree angled seam. The diagonal seam will be less noticeable than a straight seam.
Begin by layering right sides of fabric together.

Cut away excess fabric leaving a 1/4" seam allowance for borders/sashing. Press to one side. Leave 3/8" to 1/2" seam allowance for binding and press "open".
