RE: Candy Ring Block
Dslinker, these free lessons are offered to McCall's Quilting readers as a bonus to their magazine. With the video plus their magazine, a quilter has everything she (or he) needs to make the block. I'm sorry you were disappointed, and hope if you want to make the block that you'll refer to your, or a friend's, magazine. It really is a fun design!
Candy Ring Block and Deceptive Practices
I am more than a little surprised that your "free" block was more like a hook to get readers to buy the copy of the magazine. If you are advertising that you are giving the recipients of the email a "free" video lesson, wouldn't it have been reasonable for you to include a copy of the paper piecing pattern? If anyone wanted to do the block using the video, he or she would have to purchase the magazine for the paper piecing pattern even if that person had no desire to make the entire quilt. Very disappointing!
Candy Ring Block
I'm going to try this block - looks much easier than making a circle with precut shapes; when I made a circle-block in the past, it did not end up flat and was very difficult to work with. This video was easy to follow and I enjoyed it.
Such a clever idea
I've been thinking of ways to minimize my scrap hoarding for the new year....I can see a new quilt coming on! thanks so much for a great idea.
