How long I've been quilting... I have been quilting since the early 80’s so about 30 years.
I began quilting because... I have an extensive background in garment construction and alterations and I wanted to make a crib set when I was having my first child and the damage was done, there was no turning back.
My quilting style is... I am primarily a traditional quilter with a love of using colors in a fun way. I love geometric designs and their interplay.
People who inspired me... Many fabric designers catch my eye, I am currently very inspired by Kate Spain’s fabric colors and designs, I always recognize and am drawn to Three Sisters fabrics.
I draw my inspiration from... I am usually inspired by color combinations I see around me.
My Favorite techniques... I enjoy piecing and am an avid hand applique and hand piecing person for relaxation in the evenings.
Colors or fabrics I'm attracted to... It goes in waves. Lately, I am very drawn to apricot tones and aqua/teal tones. I do quite a bit of hand dyeing for my work and enjoy that.
My fabric stash... Is eclectic. I collect Civil War reproduction fabrics and have a little bit of everything. Very unorganized at present and all over the place. I buy fabric I like and use it later when I feel particularly drawn to it. I usually don’t buy all of the fabric for a certain project at one time and then use it all for that project. I have learned over the years that if I see it and like it I probably should pick some up because I never can find it again when I want it.
My quilting community... I am a member of the Washington State Quilters and I get together with my small “quilt group”, we don’t have a name, and sew and share our lives at least once a month.
Other hobbies and interests... Not really, quilting really is a compulsion with me and I don’t feel a need for anything else. I do enjoy outdoor activities, I do live in the Northwest, and enjoy backpacking and camping and especially getting together with friends.
I entered Quilt Design Star™ 2012 because... On a whim I submitted something that I could finish up in the couple of days before the deadline and thought I would give it a try.
What you should know about me… I am an accountant by trade and engineer by education so that is probably why the precision and geometry of quilting appeals to me.
My publishing history... I had a pillow pattern published in Quilter’s World, April 2012, upcoming a quilt in Quilter’s World, December 2012 and another quilt in February, 2013.
I would also like to share... I have two grown children and a very supportive husband who is retired and I am now only working part time so I have been able to spend more time quilting.
