How long I've been quilting... I have been quilting for over 20+ years.

I began quilting because... Quilting  was a natural path for me. I am self taught, since the age of 12. I started working with my first needlework kit, purchased at a big chain store. From there it was a progression of learning to sew on a sewing machine, to creating my first quilt during pregnancy with my first child. I still have that quilt, it is a mess and probably only has 1 real yard of cotton fabric. LOL

quiltMy quilting style is... My style is fairly traditional, tons of appliqué, and I love to add a layer of simple embroidery to any quilt design, pieced or appliqué.

Other quilt design contests I've entered... Yes, the local town and quilt shows. My quilt Bella Rose was juried into Paducah in 2010, which was a thrill to be sure. A Hoffman Fabric challenge, my quilt toured for a year. As to something like this competition, no. It is my first time and very exciting. It is certainly helping me to push myself out of my comfort zone.

People who inspired me... No, though my mother, Roberta Harris is an contemporary oil artist in her own right, so I guess you could say it runs in the family. I just use a different medium.

my design studioI draw my inspiration from... My inspiration is fed through architecture, antique needlework, art, and especially a beautiful garden and Mother Nature.

My Favorite techniques... Appliqué and hand embroidery are both equally important. Nothing makes me happier than combining the two into a quilt design.

Colors or fabrics I'm attracted to... Batiks that have movement without a high contrast in print and anything I can use to create a flower from.

My fabric stash... Let’s see, looking at my stash, I have way too much blue and green, could use a bit more in the oranges and yellows. My stash is pretty eclectic, a bit of this and that. Generally, I do not purchase huge amounts of fabric until a quilt design is on paper and ready to be started. Don’t get me wrong, there are many fabrics that speak to me, and I have to buy at least a yard. Some I have had for 10 plus years, which of course fondling and admiring that fabric until the perfect project comes along for that fabric.

My Wednesday Bee meets once a week and the ladies there are my closest friends. We share everything, laughs, stories, quilts, life and they are always so encouraging and supportive.
I also belong to the New Braunfels Quilt Guild, a very lovely guild with great energy and wonderful people.

The San Antonio Guild, which I have been a member of for quite some time. The guild is full of great quilters and friends.

I am addicted to blogs and start my day with several of my favorites and a cup of coffee. There is such a plethora of information, people willing to share their experiences and talents. I love seeing life from other people’s points of view, it is fascinating.

My other hobbies and interests... No, now that I think about it. Quilting is an all consuming passion for me. Though I do play with beads and scrapbooking every now and then.

dogI entered Quilt Design Star™ 2012 because... It is a challenge, something to push myself out of my box and comfort zone.
