How long I've been quilting...  I have been quilting for about 30 years.

by Annette SchultzI began quilting because... I first started making a few baby quilts for gifts and then I had the notion to make a graduation quilt for each of our nieces and nephews. The last of the graduation quilts was made and handed out last year, 11 in total. As my skills and enjoyment of quilting grew so did the types of quilts that they would receive.

My quilting style is... Mostly traditional piecing, but I’m learning new techniques all the time. I like to try new and different ideas and add something special to the quilts that I make.

Other quilt design contests I've entered... This year is the first time that I have entered any contest or competition. I have entered Jewels of the Night into both. Other than the McCall’s Quilting – Quilt Design Star™ 2012, I have entered the competition is at the Saskatchewan Stitches Conference, held in Munster SK hosted by Haus of Stitches from Humboldt, 10th Anniversary Fabric Challenge.

by Anntte SchultzPeople who inspired me... I would have to say a good friend of mine Adeline Lazaroff, she’s like a mom to me. She calls me her spare kid. We have spent many hours working on quilt projects together, sharing each other’s energy that being with someone that shares your passion creates.

I draw my inspiration from... My inspiration comes from things around me from nature to people. I love the prairies it is home to me, a warm and comfy feeling.

My Favorite techniques... I have used a lot or rotary cutting methods but I have been trying out a few different rulers from The Square in a Square , The Clear View Ruler and a few made by Virginia Walton.

Colors or fabrics I'm attracted to... I seem to be drawn to blues and greens.

My fabric stash... My stash is made up of a wide range of fabrics and fabric types, 30 reproduction, batiks, a few home spun, and mostly just your basic cottons.

My other hobbies and interests... I do like to go fishing with my hubby even though I hardly ever catch one. I have also enjoyed water color painting, but have not done that in a while. I also enjoy knitting and have taught myself to knit socks.

I entered Quilt Design Star™ 2012 because... I had designed Jewels of the Night for the Saskatchewan Stitches Conference. The people that had seen the quilt prior to the entry deadline thought it was great. Talking it over with a co-worker and my husband, and only needing a picture of the quilt, I decided to try and see if others liked my design as well. I enjoyed making it so much I thought I would be up to the challenge of competing in this competition.

Links... http://institchesandseams.blogspot.ca, this is my quilting blog.

What you should know about me… I have a small collection of vintage/older sewing machines,  I have been a blogger for just over a year. I did participate in 4 out of the 5 Patches of Hope Quilt Auctions in Regina.

My publishing history... I have self published some quilting patterns that I have taught a few classes with over the years. They have been basic patterns featuring, table runners, candle mats, and tote bags as well as an apron pattern.

I would also like to share... I am married with 2 adult children a husband of 32 yrs. this year. I can always be found at or very near to my machines. I have taught a few quilting classes as well as post card classes. I have been know to take my sewing machine camping, which does not surprise anyone that knows me at all.
