Design Star 2010 Finalist - Robin Jones |

Check out Robin's contest quilts at the bottom of this page.
I've been quilting since.. I started sewing at the age of 9. I didn’t actually start quilting until about six years ago.
I started quilting because.. My aunts were always quilting when they came to visit me. I have always loved quilts, and asked them to teach me to quilt. I was hooked after my first block!
Learning to quilt.. Knowing how to sew was helpful. My aunts explained each step as we worked on a quilt. The first quilt I made was a tied quilt. The second (and every quilt since then) has been machine quilted. I like to try new techniques every chance I get.
| My style is.. I love any quilt, but prefer the more modern quilts. I like to create quilts that are easy but look unique. I want to create patterns that people WANT to make. I want to help people feel creative when they make my patterns. | Robin Jones Marietta, GA |
The person who most inspired me.. My aunt Bonnie has taught me everything I know about quilting. She lives in Wisconsin but visits me 2-3 times a year. We have the same love for quilting, fabrics and sewing.
I'm inspired by.. I draw my inspirations from so many different places. I think of a design and start sketching. I see things along the way and ask myself, “could that be a quilt square?” I think I drive my husband crazy because when I see something that inspires me….I have to get it on paper.
My favorite techniques.. I love to meander when I’m quilting. However, I also like to stitch in the ditch with certain designs.
I'm attracted by.. Wow…there are so many! I love fall fabrics/colors. I also love the modern/artistic fabrics. I also love mixing traditional fabrics with modern fabrics for a totally unique look.
My stash would fit in a.. Tractor trailer! Just kidding. Actually, I am very lucky to have a sewing room for my “addiction”. I absolutely LOVE collecting fabric. I travel a lot in my job and whenever I have any extra time, I locate local quilt shops and look for unique and different fabrics to add to my collection. I must say, I LOVE to collect dragonfly fabrics, which are getting a bit out of hand.

What you should know about me.. I have been married to a wonderful man for 31 years. I have a 25 year old daughter and four “grand dogs.” I have a 2 year old Maltese named Maggie (who also LOVES quilts). My dream is to open a quilt shop where I can get others interested in quilting. |
My non-quilting hobbies are.. I love to be on the beach or on the lake. We have a boat and like to “kick back” on it whenever possible. If I could find room on the boat for my sewing machine…I would be in heaven!
I entered Quilt Design Star™ because.. I have been designing my own quilt patterns from the time I started quilting. I started modifying almost every quilt pattern I made. My dream is to be published and to have quilt shops carrying all my line of patterns – by Cottontail Quilts.
