About Diane Dragovich Moore...

I've been quilting since… I started quilting two years ago, but I’ve been quilting forever in my heart.

I began quilting because… Learning to quilt was on the top of my Bucket List.

I learned to quilt… I am the Queen of Adult Ed Classes, having taken classes from candy making, furniture refinishing, and ballroom dancing, to children’s book writing. I love to learn new things and Adult Ed classes allow you to try something new with little investment in time and money. Two years ago I found an Adult Ed class in Beginning Quilting. The class was offered during the day which was perfect because my children were in school during the day.  The class lasted six weeks and taught everything from fabric selection to binding.

My quilting style is… Although I admire contemporary fabrics, I consider myself a traditional quilter. I would choose an olive green 1970’s floral over a contemporary fabric.

A person who inspired me…  I was raised in a “sewing” family although none of my relatives quilted.  Two of my aunts were professional seamstresses, working in the high fashion garment industry in New York City. I learned to sew by sitting quietly next to my aunts’ sewing machines and observing every stitch they took.

My favorite techniques… I like to take a traditional block pattern and use it in an unexpected way.

Colors or fabrics I'm attracted to... I love any color as long as it’s brown.

My fabric stash... Having only been quilting for two years, I have not accumulated a stash.  My fabrics were all purchased with a specific project in mind, but maybe I haven’t gotten to that project yet… oh, that’s a stash! All of my fabrics fit in two plastic tubs.

My quilting community… I am a member of the Hunterdon County Quilting Guild, a 45 member strong guild in rural New Jersey. I also have a group of QBs (Quilting Buddies) who get together to sew, work on community service, shop at quilt shops, and travel to quilt shows.

It is so exciting to paint and reupholster something and make it look like new. Photography has also been one of my long time hobbies.

I entered Quilt Design Star™ 2011 because... Competition adds a whole new level of interest to a hobby.

Links... None.  I think people should unplug and smell the roses!

What you should know about me… It’s never too late to learn new things… if I can do it, you can too!
