Design Wall Tuesday – Christmas quilt

Welcome to Design Wall Tuesday!

Welcome back to Design Wall Tuesday. I hope your weekend was productive and you found time for sewing. The weather is getting cooler and the days a little shorter. Here’s what the editors of McCall’s Quilting and Quiltmaker magazines have been working on.

From Content Director, Carolyn Beam:

This is another quilt for my Charmed, I’m Sure blog over at Quiltmaker.com. Most of the Log Cabin block sections are done—I can’t decide if I want the quilt to be 4 blocks by 6 blocks or 5 blocks by 6 blocks. I need to do a little math. I’m also trying to decide about the sashing within the blocks—different lights or all the same. I’ll keep playing with it. Most of my quilts start with nothing more than an idea—a particular block I’m playing with or something similar. As the blocks grow, so do my ideas for how I’m going to set them, whether or not I’m going to add sashing, how big I want the quilt to be, pieced border or plain border or no border at all—all part of my design process.

I’m doing an applique border for the final border on my Chocolate Bonbons quilt. I find it easier to get things lined up if I sew the border on first and then applique. The brown background border is mitered and since the quilt is getting pretty big this was challenging. One thing that really helped was that I pressed the seams open in the pieced border. This made it really easy to not chop off the points! Then it was one to making all those leaves and flowers. This is only glue-basted. Now it’s time to sew!

These are a collection of really beautiful dyed panels, available in several different colors and styles and I want at least one of each. The finished project came out so nice and will be featured in an upcoming issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts Magazine, so please stay tuned for that!

design wall tuesday christmas quilt Lori 231x300 Design Wall Tuesday – Christmas quiltI’m working on a color option for the February/March 2019 issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts. I always like to see what happens with just a change of color. The original quilt in the issue is shades of blue and green so it’s cool and serene looking. Right now this one makes me think of a sizzling hot summer day.

Thanks for stopping by. We hope to see you next time as we share more of our sewing with you.
