Welcome to Design Wall Tuesday!
Even though we’re still in summer, the editors of McCall’s Quilting and Quiltmaker have found some time to spend in their sewing studios. Read more to see what they’ve been up to:
From Content Director, Carolyn Beam:
As you may have noticed from previous Design Wall Tuesdays, I’m obsessed with charm squares and finding different ways to use them in quilts. I’m working on a couple more new designs. Here’s a sneak peek. I’ll show the finished quilts when they’re done, and sometime down the road, I’ll share the block patterns on Quiltmaker‘s Quilty Pleasures blog.
From Associate Editor, Erin Russek:
I’m getting ready to quilt these smaller basket quilt so I hung them on my design wall. Not only do I have a thing for appliqué but it sure looks like I have a thing for baskets as well!
From Associate Editor, Gigi Khalsa:
I’ve been working on big, long projects for weeks, so over the weekend I decided to indulge in some instant gratification with a small, quick project (Also I needed some coasters). I had these great circular fusible coaster forms from Bosal and a set of charm squares, so I combined them to make a set of reversible coasters. I wrapped some 1/4″ twill tape around the raw edges and stitched it on with a narrow zig zag stitch for a nice clean finish, but it was tricky to avoid a little lump where the twill tape overlaps. Now I can get back to work on my larger projects, with a refreshing beverage on hand that won’t leave a wet ring on the table!
From Acquisitions Editor, Lori Baker:
I’m working on a color option for an upcoming issue of Quick Quilts. It didn’t go well – I experimented with a method of construction that didn’t work but I love the fabric so I’m going to do it again.
From Associate Editor, Mary Kate Karr-Petras:
I’m working on piecing a quilt top that you’ll see in a future issue of McCall’s Quilting. Lots of triangle-squares, but they’re going to add up to create a very cool design. Stay tuned!
Please join us next week for more quilting inspiration! Happy Quilting!
