Colleran Kate 225px 224x300 Ring Around the Toesies: A Visit with Kate ColleranWelcome back guest blogger, quilt designer, and author Kate Colleran of Seams Like a Dream Quilt Designs! Kate‘s new bed runner quilt pattern, Ring Around the Toesies, is in the February/March 2017 issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts magazine

Hi everyone! Kate Colleran here from Seams Like a Dream Quilt Designs and it is super fun to be back with you guest blogging. Today I am talking about my bed runner, Ring Around the Toesies, featured in the February/March 2017 issue of McCalls Quick Quilts magazine.

Have you ever gone into a hotel and the bed is covered with a white duvet and a lovely bed runner graces the bottom of the bed? Doesn’t it look pretty?

That’s what I was thinking about when I designed this bed runner, Ring Around the Toesies. I was also thinking that sometimes you don’t want or need another quilt! Or have time to make a queen or king sized quilt. So if you don’t have time for a quilt, a bed runner is a great way to dress up the bed. And you can make a few and change it up for the seasons. My runner was made using fabrics from the Feathers and Flourishes line by Amanda Murphy for Benartex. I think it’s a great look for spring!

Crystal Zagnoli quilted the runner using a beautiful light blue thread.

You could also make one using a lovely holiday line like the Midnight Clear fabric line by 3 Sisters for Moda Fabrics. Now you have one for the holidays:

Or maybe in white with gold and silver?

Or maybe make one using the fun, bright Desert Bloom line by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda. A summer runner for sure!

And for fall, you could go with this rich look using Gratitude by Jo Morton for Moda.

See how different they all look with the different fabrics with different styles? What would you use to make your runner? Holiday fabric? Deep oranges and rust for fall? Or something bright and bold for summer? Leave us a comment and be entered for a chance to win 8 fat eighth pieces from the Feathers and Flourishes line and a copy of my pattern Kozy Q Scarf so you can whip up a fun infinity scarf.

Happy quilting!
