Here’s a wonderfully fun fat quarter-friendly lap quilt pattern by Sandi Irish. Are you a fat quarter collector? Whether you already have a great selection in your stash, or are looking for a reason to go buy some, this pattern is a great way to utilize fat quarters. Each fat quarter is cut identically, so you can stack several layers for fast and efficient cutting. Each fabric is used in two different blocks, once as the predominant fabric, and once as the background.
Sandi’s version is pictured in flannel textures…you might enjoy trying floral flannels for a cozy feminine version. This pattern would work equally well with modern quilting cotton prints or batiks, or a palette of trendy solids. You’ll need 16 fat quarters plus a border fabric to make this quilt. Cuts from the fat quarters are used to create a scrappy binding, so you won’t need to purchase additional fabric for binding.
