Challenge 3, the final round of this year’s Quilt Design Star™ contest, has finally arrived!
Our contest began in March, with both Amateur and Professional category quilters submitting photos of quilts they designed. If you missed the fabulous winning entry quilts, you can still see them here: Amateur Entry Quilts; Professional Entry Quilts. The public voted for their favorites, our panel of judges weighed in, and the 2012 Challenge 1 Finalists were announced at the end of May.
For Challenge 1, the finalists designed a quilt top using an assigned block from our free online quilt block pattern library: Amish Star for the Amateurs, and Storm at Sea for the Professionals.
Again, the public voted and the judges weighed in to determine who would continue to the next challenge.
For Challenge 2, the finalists designed a quilt top using fabric provided by our sponsors: Geo-C9664 Multi paisley print by Timeless Treasures for the Amateurs, and Summer Totem from the LouLouThi collection by Anna Marie Horner for Free Spirit for the Professionals.

Once again, the public voted and the judges weighed in to determine who would continue to Challenge 3.
For this final challenge, 18 remaining finalists must create a completed quilt inspired by the theme “Opposites Attract”. Finalists are designing and sewing through the end of September, and public voting will open on October 2. The grand prize winner in each category will be announced October 23.
Finalists have enjoyed generous sponsor prizes throughout the contest, and the grand prize winner in the Amateur Category will win a Viking® Sapphire™ 875 Quilt sewing machine plus $500 cash.
The grand prize winner in the Professional Category will win a Pfaff® Quilt Expression™ 4.0 plus $500 cash.
