MQ: What was the first step you took to design this Challenge 2 quilt?
“My first step was to think in my head what pattern I wanted to use. There are so many blocks and layouts that one can find, of course I wanted to be original. I have always wanted to make a quilt with only diamonds, possibly a one block diamond quilt. I found a way to incorporate one single diamond block into an entire quilt.
Two days after I got the notice I was in the challenge, I went to Jamaica for 4 days with my sister, Bonnie. Of course, I had to think and work on the Challenge while enjoying the beach, food and sun in Jamaica. Before I left I bought a few pieces of fabric at my local quilt shop, Sarah’s Thimble. I explained the challenge and they were very encouraging and wanted to see my progress. I took in the piece of Challenge fabric to get inspired.
You can see I put some of my fabric in my suitcase, along with my rotary cutter. While I was in Jamaica, I took a few pictures to inspire me. I used some of the designs in my quilt. Below are a few pictures of the trip, what inspired me, and my design. Of course, now that I am back in the USA, I have a challenge of getting it all done by the deadline.”
