MQ: What was your reaction when you first realized you would be required to design a quilt that incorporated the fabric you received?
“I had wondered what it would be and when it would arrive. My fabric had a slight delay and the gals at McCall’s Quilting sent a photo so that I could start to play with some ideas. This worked out well as I had come up with two and then I just had to decide which one once the fabric was in my hands. Now that I have it I know it will be an appliqué quilt.”
MQ: Do you normally choose fabrics first and then start a design, or vice versa?
“I find that I will go both ways with the starting point of a design. Some fabrics will just pull you in and a design will be born. Other times you just are playing around with a pencil and paper and something just works and then the search is on.”
MQ: Has your community responded to your participation in Quilt Design Star™ in any way?
“The local newspaper printed an article during the last round of voting and would like to see the next quilt when I have it ready. With this article, I have had a lot of folks asking about the challenge and wishing me luck.”
MQ: Anything else you’d like to share?
“I’m so excited to be creating for QDS™. And realizing that this is something that I want to do more of. It has been great to have the basic guide lines to follow which have helped me stretch my design possibilities. It has also helped in time management, set short term goals and go from there. It is just such a good feeling knowing others are liking what I have created, not just family saying they like it … they really do.”
