“When I first opened the package that had the Challenge 2 fabric in it, I must admit my first reaction was thinking ‘WHAT would anyone ever make from this fabric except maybe some curtains or a really funky tote bag?’
Quite honestly, I don’t think that I would have ever chosen this particular fabric off the bolt! The colors don’t fit in with the jewel tones or earth tones that normally attract my attention, and the scale of the print is much larger than I am used to working with.
So I hung the fabric up to look at it for a while, hoping that some inspiration would come to me. Staring at it from far away didn’t help, but when I started looking at it up close, I got a really wild idea.
The design I’m working on is definitely outside the box….WAY outside the box! It may not even end up being a quilt that folks will want to vote for, but I think it is going to be lots of fun making it.
Today I went to the fabric store to see if I could find some solid colors that coordinate well with the print. There wasn’t much available, but I picked up a couple of colors that might work. I found some stuff from my stash, too. I think I might do some embellishing on the quilt, so I got some embroidery floss and beads as well.
My friends and family have been very supportive and encouraging so far. They might think I’m a little bit crazy when they see what I come up with next!
This round will definitely be a challenge for me. It is making me stretch my creativity to places it has never been before!”
