Professional category finalist Robin Waggoner hails from Spokane Valley, Washington.
Robin’s entry-round quilt is titled “Charm Plus One”.
Robin says: “My family and friends have been very supportive and encouraging about this competition. They have always been supportive of my quilting compulsion, but I have been really thrilled by their support of my doing this competition as well. This is little out of my comfort zone so I appreciate their encouragement.”
On her Challenge 1 experience so far: “Storm at Sea is one of my favorite blocks. It is much more versatile than people realize and a little more difficult to piece well than some other blocks. I haven’t had any problems or complications with this challenge yet. Fingers crossed.
I usually start with the fabric and/or colors, and they dictate the block selection and layout. Occasionally, I have started with the block first, as in this case, and then selected fabrics, but it feels a little counter-intuitive to me. I find that I get hung up on a particular color or group of colors and for a while everything that appeals to me seems to reflect those colors in some way. Color makes me feel certain things and I like to use that in my quilts by complementing that feeling with the overall quilt design.” Good luck, Robin!
