Please welcome Amateur category finalist Christa Hitchcock to the first challenge of Quilt Design Star™ 2012!
Her entry-round quilt is titled “Gardens of Vista Maria”.
Christa tells us about her supporters: “My family and friends have been very supportive, from encouraging me to enter, to being excited with my advancement to the next stage. Now they are waiting for the ‘big reveal’ of the new quilt design.”
On her experience thus far in Challenge 1: “I have not made the Amish Star Block before, but I did put together a sample block, and I am having fun seeing the ways the block can be utilized. I do have EQ7, but I am by no means an expert in using it. I will attempt designing with EQ7; however, I may just go back to my trusty old graph paper and pencil and ruler…and eraser, of course. I walk each day, and that time gives me the opportunity to think of ways to manipulate quilt blocks and put them in various settings. Sometimes they translate to paper, and sometimes they just don’t seem to come together. Once I have a design on paper, the rest is easy for me; figuring the fabric needs, picking the fabrics and piecing it. I have given myself a deadline for making a decision on the design. At that point, I will have to pick my best and go with it. That actually might be the toughest step in this whole process.” Good luck, Christa!
