Please welcome Professional category finalist Annette Schultz to McCall’s Quilt Design Star™ 2012!
Her entry-round quilt is titled “Jewels of the Night”.
“Those who know that I have submitted my design to your competition could not be more proud and supportive. They have faith in me to get the next one done in time and love the ideas I have been putting on paper and want to see them all come to be. My family knows where to find me when they come home – down at my machine. Not many days go by without a needle in my hand or some time at my machine.”
“I have never tried the Storm at Sea Block and I am looking forward to making a quilt with it. I have been playing with a few ideas already and have narrowed it down to two different ones. I have used my EQ7 to help with some ideas. I think I will have to stitch out a few blocks to get the feel for it and what it can do.”
Annette tells us about her Challenge 1 experience so far: “While I am here at the Saskatchewan Stitches Conference, I hope to get a start on my ideas and buy a selection fabric to bring them to life. Being here at the conference will cut my time down at home for working on my project, but you know that when you are surrounded by so many creative people, some of that energy is bound to rub off. I think it will help to carry me through to see the completion of my current ideas for this quilt. On May 30 at the evening gala, after the guest speaker Beverly Johnson, there was the presentation on the entries for the challenge. I am very pleased to say that Jewels of the Night won 1st in the large quilt category. I was very nervous going up to accept the prize and to try and explain the great opportunity your magazine has granted me. Yesterday I also won the Viewers’ Choice Award with Jewels of the Night; the prize was an Elna 740 sewing machine. The quilted items will be on display in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, for the summer. I have been just overwhelmed with the response to my quilt.
Conference is half over, so soon I will be able to devote more time to putting my quilt together as I have it planned out and started to stitch in the camper.”
