Please welcome Amateur category finalist Joy Tallman to Challenge 1 of our Quilt Design Star™ 2012 competition!
Joy was recently voted President of her local quilters’ guild. Congratulations, Joy! Her entry-round submission is titled “Tuscany Bird”.
“This is the first time I have done an Amish Star Block. No worries, it looks very straight-forward, so ‘easy breezy’. My piece is moving along on time.”
Joy tells us an interesting story about her Challenge 1 process so far: “This past weekend was the date of my son’s wedding. UGH! I am a planner when I design a quilt, not only do I audition fabric for the project, but also do a drawing with graph paper. So there I am on Sunday morning at 6:30, the day of the wedding, in the coffee shop of the hotel with my project spread out over the table. As people wondered in to get breakfast, they would glance over at me and check out what I was up to. Several people stopped and inquired. I proudly told them of my place in the competition. I had one older gentleman in particular, stop and chat. We talked ‘shop’ – he was a woodworker. I think art brings people together. We both talked about our creative process, it was too fun.”
