McCall’s Quilting Intern’s First Quilt: Part 5.5

My last two blocks! I can’t believe all 12 are done now. I figure my quilt is almost halfway to completion, so I should be able to finish it in just 3 short weeks (assuming I can keep myself motivated).

The third block I worked on this weekend was Arrowheads. What a cool design it creates! I was a little unsure about using the rose-patterned fabric, but now I see that it helps to give the block its unique look.

Arrowheads

Well, here it is – drum roll, please – my final block! Bear’s Paw Variation is the only block I chose to create from the Intermediate category of McCall’s Quilt Block Reference. Sewing so many bias edges was NOT my idea of a good time, but the final product ended up looking great! I used the “sew-big-trim-down” technique here, just like in the Crystals Block which really helped.

Bear's Paw Variation

(Did you notice I used a few of the same fabrics in the very same places in my Bear’s Paw Variation Block as in my Ohio Star Block? I didn’t until I looked at all of the blocks together!)

As soon as I put my last stitch in the final block, we laid all 12 out on the floor to decide their placement in my quilt! How excited I was, as you can see:

So relieved to be finished!

Now it’s time to start working on my sashing! I plan to use white fabric with lime green triangles on each corner as sashing, along with green print squares as sashing posts (see below). The lime corners of the white strips will create a star between each block!

I’m hoping to finish my entire quilt top by the end of next weekend. I think I can, I think I can…
