Julie Benefiel is a ‘mystery quilt’ designer for The River’s Edge Fabric Company and a Quilt Design Star™ 2012 finalist in our Professional category. Her entry-round quilt is titled “Stargazing”.

Stargazing
Julie tells us how her family has reacted to her becoming a Challenge 1 finalist: “Very excited!!! They were really into the voting process to get me this far and can’t wait to start voting again! I have a group of gals at the local quilt shop, The River’s Edge Fabric Company, that sign up for all my mystery quilts, and it’s like having my own fan club!”
“I’m leaving for a week in Florida June 1st! Hadn’t planned on taking any projects with me but I am now! What better location to work on the Storm at Sea Block than on the beach!” Have fun and good luck, Julie!
On her design process thus far: “This is my first attempt at making the Storm at Sea Block. I’ve showed the block to everyone I know and they are all intimidated by the all the triangles and diamonds! I opened up EQ7 and just started playing with the blocks. I love EQ7!! It really helps me get my color choices and placements narrowed down. I may change my mind 10 times before settling on the final design, but at least I can save time by ‘making’ the blocks on EQ first!”
“Here’s a picture of my cat, Angel making herself comfy in my project organizer. She thinks she helping… but not so much.”
