We welcome another finalist into our Quilt Design Star™ 2012 Amateur category, Kathy Kent. Kathy’s original quilt submission is titled “Cherry Tree Scraps”.

Cherry Tree Scraps
Kathy wrote to us about her experience in Challenge 1 thus far: “I have never made Amish Star Block before, but as soon as I got the assignment I made a 12″ square test block. After I made the block, I sat down at the computer and searched the block and Amish quilts. I didn’t want to do something that had been done before. I pulled out an Amish quilt top I had made a few years ago, but have not yet finished and hung it up for inspiration. I also have a Amish wall hanging that I have completed, so I hung that, too. I pinned the Amish Star Block onto the wall hanging and got my graph paper out. I will probably go with the Amish theme of the block. I have my drawing finished and will start sewing this weekend. To keep with my style, I am using fabrics from my stash.
My family and friends are thrilled I am participating in the competition. They have e-mailed and Facebook’d me to say congratulations.”
“This is a picture of me in my sewing room; my dog Bandit is keeping me company.”
