Approaching Autumn

Acorn Autumn flat 300x295 Approaching AutumnAutumn is my favorite season here in Colorado. As the intense heat begins to simmer  down, my family and I enjoy the harvest of tomatoes, peppers and summer squash from our backyard garden. Soon it will be time to bring out my cozy, familiar old sweaters for late evening neighborhood walks, and colorful fall leaves will be crunching delightfully under my feet. I begin to think about crock-pot stew recipes and homemade bread, books I’ve been meaning to read, quilt tops that are ready to be quilted, and finally getting the ugly-but-necessary swamp cooler removed from my living-room window!

I enjoy the warm autumn theme of this wall hanging pattern from our McCall’s Quilting September/October 2011 issue. As a web bonus, we have a larger version quilt pattern for “Acorn Autumn” measuring 44 1/2″ square, FREE for you to download and get started on now!

What does autumn bring to mind for you, and what is the season like where you live?

Autumn here in Spokane WA is beautiful. The wind blows, the leaves turn wonderful colors and you have this awesome sense in the air that everything is changing. My favorite time of the year!
