Placemat number three begins. I’m calling it The Wave and like that it is a looser design involving appliqué with less piecing than my first two mats.
Here’s the quick sketch for The Wave design. I made a simple paper template to help me cut out the wave shapes, but will purposely draw and cut each one a little differently from the original template curve for variety.
You can see that I added new pieces when the first ones didn’t look right to me.
I embellished with leaves and other shapes to finish off the mat. Sewing the edges of shapes with a small zigzag stitch served to quilt it. Are you seeing what I’m seeing in this image? It’s giving me the feeling of looking through a screen of garlands and vines. Let’s make the fourth mat like this one!






She’s such a lucky girl! This is a beautiful place mat.
