Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, volume 3

Sherri and I just love Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks magazines and we’re delighted that we’ve each gotten to design a block for each one. Here’s my design for volume 3 and I’m so pleased with how it came out.

QM ROBERTS 300x300 Quiltmakers 100 Blocks, volume 3

My Rose Garden block!

I love little nine-patches and have included them in several of my quilts over the years. And I’ve always been enthralled with patterns like Ocean Waves that give the illusion of curved piecing with straight-edge patches. When I combined those two ideas with my favorite pink and green palette, this is what emerged. Fortunately I have a stash the size of Mt. Rushmore so I was able to find just the right floral for the center of my block. I’d love to see my block in other colorways, so if you make it, please let me know by adding a comment. And then please post a photo to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/mccallsquilting ). Thanks!

And here's Sherri's Garden Spot block!

Sherri says, “I love Kaffe Fassett fabrics, but don’t always know what to do with those big prints. I designed this block to showcase one of my favorites! Leave a comment below to be entered in a random drawing for a free issue.”

These are both great blocks! Great color schemes!

  27. Carol Sc says:

I particularly like the way the Kaffe Fassett fabric was used — you can actually appreciate the beauty of the fabric — so many of the quilts have too much going on IMHO. I also have lots of nine patches around — clever way to use them.

  28. Sheri says:

    Beautiful blocks. Love them!

  29. VickiT says:

Both blocks are wonderful. I love the way the curves appear in the top block. Very cool. I am going to have a problem deciding which block to start with once I get that magazine in my hands. I really want to get some of them made from this issue and already have a few in mind that I’ve seen so far. This one might make that list but we’ll see. Congrats on being in Issue 3.

  30. Janet says:

Two lovely blocks. I’m particularly drawn to the Rose Garden block.

  31. MarciaW says:

Both of these blocks are lovely. I especially like the idea for using the big Kaffe prints. Matching points is a challenge for me though.

  32. duff says:

Two amazing blocks! I think the little 9-patches look like the flower centers, as though I’m looking down at them.
Sherri’s block is ab fab too! I love Kaffe prints but so far I’ve done nothing with them because I’m just not sure what to do–now I have an idea!

  33. Joyce Mitchell says:

Love both blocks. Really like the look of curves in the Rose Garden block. Thanks for the giveaway.

  34. Tammy Hempel says:

  44. Evelene Sterling says:

In the Rose Garden block the center block makes it look like a reflection-how beautiful. Sherri’s Garden block I love the color combinations and how it showcases her Kaffe print.

  45. kwiltnkats says:

Laura, not sure which block I like best…yours or Sherri’s…but then I don’t have to pick one do I? Love the fabrics both of you have selected certainly not to mention the great designs. Sandi

  46. Cloud Mom says:

Congrats on your block! I love love love the tiny 9-patch.

  47. deb says:

I like both of these blocks! I was wondering what the rose block would look like repeated in a quilt, but it didn’t work when I looked at my computer screen with a “multiplier”. Ok, I’m sure that was good for a laugh.
I also never know what to do with those large KF fabrics, so I only own a couple, how sad.

  48. Jen says:

Beautiful blocks! So many pieces and very technical, I love those kinds of blocks! Congrats!

  49. Pam says:

Both of these blocks are beautiful and unique. I love the pinks and greens in Laura’s block and I am a Kaffe Fassett fan also and I love the way Sherri’s block showcases his fabrics. Thank you Laura and Sherri for making these blocks for the magazine.
