My border fabrics are chosen and sewn. I decided to sew the backing to the front in pillowcase style, with batting in between and no binding. Now that I’m nearing the finish line I know this art quilt needs a little surface embellishment, especially to soften the harder lines of the borders. At a Boulder yarn shop called Shuttles, Spindles and Skeins I bought about 3 yards of variegated looped mohair.

Then I started cutting out fabric shapes and fusing them for possible use in the border design. I don’t want to overdo it. But I did! Ha! I cut way too many possible shapes and fabric elements, (only a few shown here) but at least I’ll have enough choices here to get the right touches in my border treatment. It’s fun to try things I’ve never done before, like couching with this pretty yarn!

Love the mohair idea. It gives the piece even more added texture. Nice!!!
