A Quilter Moves In!

Fabric? What fabric?

I am in the process of moving in with my wonderful guy, Dan, and his teenage boys, Aaron and Jake. The three of them have been helping me move and it’s been an eye-opener for them to say the least. I tried to minimize the shock by having most of my fabric boxed up before they got to my house. However, when Dan picked up the first of 12 good-sized boxes he looked me in the eye and asked, “…You have fabric in these? It weighs a ton!” Yep. It does. Fabric is dense… and luscious… and beloved… and wonderful… and addicting (I could go on). Here are a couple of photos of my boxed fabric in my new abode. It’s going to take awhile to set up my sewing room! There must be a way to make this an efficient process. Has anyone found a way to make this easier?

Once you get in past the twin piles of boxes, you’ll see a wonderful way to use a bathtub!

See? Isn’t it great? Who needs to bathe when there’s fabric to store?

Check back Monday for more photos. This is going to be quite the undertaking icon smile A Quilter Moves In!

  1. Laura you are so brave. The idea of packing my stash for a move scares me!! I don’t think mine would fit in 12 boxes. I love the use of the bathroom. I hope you purged prior to the move, if not do so as you open each box. Take some time and think about where you want everything so you don’t have touch things more then once. Good Luck. Darlene

We moved 3 1/2 years ago. I had a HUGE 600 sq ft sewing room. My husband has built 8 foot long shelves, floor to ceiling for my fabric, plus I had boxes for assorted pieces. The movers obviously weren’t experienced figuring out the weight of fabric… they seriously underestimated how much it weighed! My husband did a lot of the packing for me – he’s a keeper!

  3. That is awesome! My stash is much smaller, but yes, it was *heavy* when we moved it from Michigan to Colorado. Thank god for movers!

OMG! I can never move again. The thought of moving all my fabric just boggles the mind. I hadn’t started quilting yet last time we moved and it was hard enough moving all my painting, cross stitch, knit/crochet supplies and patterns to go with all.

My husband moved a box of fabric all over the US for me as I could not bear to throw away even one scrap. We have been married for 33 years. Now, with a sewing room, it would take more than “a” box! LOL. My quilting girlfriend of almost 40 years and I have an agreement, whoever “goes” first gets the others fabric stash. And our husband and kids know this agreement exists! She who dies with the most fabric wins!

My thoughts and prayers are with Dan and the boys!

I do solemnly swear not to inundate Dan and the boys with fabric. I do solemnly promise to do my best not to leave pins underfoot. And, I do solemnly pledge to occasionally emerge from my glorious sewing room to cook dinner!
