A Life of Purpose

PHYLLIS SCHNECK2 A Life of Purpose

Phyllis Schneck

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose.”  Robert Byrne

The recent shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was so much more than an assassination attempt. While I felt horrible for the families of the dead and injured, there was still a buffer between me and the event. After all, it happened in Arizona, far from my home in Colorado. That buffer disappeared when I heard the name of Phyllis Schneck. Not that I knew Phyllis personally, but her identification in the news as a quilter certainly struck home. I feel that every quilter contributes to the quilting community in some way, and Phyllis took an active role in not only the quilting community, but in her church and other areas of her life as well. She truly embodies “a life of purpose.” Our sister magazine, Quilter’s Newsletter, has written a wonderful eulogy to Phyllis. Please take some time to remember this wonderful lady and mourn her loss to the quilting community.

I just read the eulogy and it made me all teary-eyed. She surely was “one of us” and I’m so glad her story is being shared. My heart goes out to her family. Bless her soul.
