Our office was graced recently with the presence of Ami Simms from the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI). Our sister magazine, Quiltmaker, has blogged about their staff’s contributions to the AAQI, so I thought I’d give you a peek at what our editors are working on.
Alzheimer’s has a personal meaning for Laura Roberts, Assistant Editor. Her mother was afflicted with the disease, and she watched her “go away” before her eyes. Laura created a 2-sided quilt, one side for before Alzheimer’s, and one for after.
Our Associate Editor, Sherri Driver, is working on her quilt as well. She used pre-cut shapes covered with tulle, which obscured the edges of her shapes.
Alzheimer’s is such a personal disease, and since quilting is a personal art, the two go together perfectly. Please consider contributing to, or bidding for a quilt in the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative. Lives will be touched by your contribution.
