McCall’s Quilting Associate Editor, Sherri Driver and Assistant Editor, Laura Roberts are both proud participants in the Quiltmaker 100 blocks issue. Take a look at their blocks below!

Sherri Driver
Sherri says, “I love stripes and try to find new and simple ways to use them in nearly everything I sew. I’m also crazy about Kaffe Fassett fabrics, so my block combines both. In this construction, the stripe fabric has bias on the edges of the units, but with careful handling, that won’t cause any problems.”

Laura Roberts
Per Laura, “Don’t you love ripples?! I do… especially when they start crossing through one another. I was the kid making waves in the bathtub to watch the ripples weave themselves together. So, that’s where I started, and somewhere along the way pink made an entrance into my block, with brown following quickly on pink’s heels. I’m really pleased with the way it turned out because I can visualize both the horizontal movement of the ripples and the vertical as well (as if they’re really lattice-like under the surface of the water). If I let my mind float away when designing, rather than try to force it in the direction I want it to go, I usually end up with something that I find pleasing.”
Let us know what you think below, and you may be entered to win a free copy of the 100 blocks issue!
Thanks,
Kathy

really unusual colors on the first block…love to see experimentation
I love both of the blocks. The lattice work looks very complicated. Looking forward to seeing the magazine so I can see the directions.
Great block designs…especially drawn to the weaving effect!
I like both blocks, but I’m really partial to the striped fabrics you used. Beautiful!
I love the top block especially…very pretty! i’d love to win the book.
Very fun blocks- very different in look but both very funky looking.
I love Kaffe fabrics so I am partial to the first block but I can see some fun things could be created with the second block.
Congratulations on being chosen for the magazine.

Both blocks are great, but I like how complicated the ripples block looks. When I took the time to really check it out, it didn’t look so intimidating. Very cool!
Thanx for participating and congrats! Love the ripples.
LOVE both your blocks……I’m especially drawn to the woven effects block….thanks!

While I do like both those blocks, I really LOVE the 2nd one done by Laura Roberts. I love the way the lines flow in that.
Once again, congratulations.
These are both really neat blocks. I especially like the use of stripes on the first. It really pops. And I also like the interweaving on the second. Neat technique.
Congrats on being in the book!
Look like fun. Congratulations on your blocks.

I like Sherri’s block. I think it would look good with quieter fabrics—-maybe reds & greens for a Christmas quilt. Thanks for the giveaway!
Blessings!

Sherri and Laura, I like the geometry of both your blocks. Laura, I bet yours would look quite intricate when repeated – a great whole quilt top. Thanks for the chance to win your giveaway.
Stripes rule!! I love their effect on a quilt. They can either anchor a design or give it much liveliness depending on how they are used.
