I've been Quilting for:  20 years

I began to quilt.. I have always loved sewing and wanted to make them for my family.

I learned to quilt.. at a little local quilt shop in my hometown. They had "Hens and Chicks Club" every week; it was open sewing time and the ladies in the "club" there taught me how to make my first quilt.

I belong to.. the Norman Area Quilters Guild, I am actually the president-elect for next year.  We have a program called Community Quilts; we make quilts for 4 area agencies for abused children and babies. We meet once a month to make quilts for donation.  I also belong to Oklahoma City Quilters Guild as well as a monthly patches club at a favorite quilt shop and 2 small groups of quilt friends that meet bi-monthly.             Renee Chesnut

About my style.. I dont think I have just one style, designs of all types attract my attention. I love things that look complicated but are not complicated to make.  Pieced, applique, foundation pieced...I LOVE them all!!!

My teacher and mentor.. My grandmother Marie made quilts.

I'm inspired by.. Everywhere and everything seems to inspire me....colors..designs in almost anything...I see quilt ideas in the most random places...

My favorite techniques.. I have a favorite way to do foundation piecing that works really well for me. When beginning a new quilt, I am a huge fan of ziplock bags!!  They keep my pieces organized and together.

I'm attracted to.. I love beautiful vibrant colors. I love batiks and gorgeous florals, stripes, dots, swirly things....I guess I love most all fabric.

My stash is.. organized by color in bins my husband built.  It is mostly 100% cotton.

I love.. spending time with my children. I enjoy reading and working out at the gym with my husband.

People should know about me.. I am outgoing and fun, and a little unconventional!! I love new ideas and new friends. I am always the one to volunteer to help or join the committee and jump right in!! I have a new puppy that has stolen my heart and my kids and my husband are the most important people in the world to me!!

I entered Design Star™.. upon the urging of my friend Georjana.  She sent me the link and  strongly suggested I enter.  I am thrilled she did!!  Thank you Georjana!!!

Stars and Stripes are Endearing
Renee, I really like your Stars and Stripes quilt. It really has a special twist that others have never thought of - great job!
Proud of you[:
Hey mommy, congratulations! I knew you could do it! I love you, and just wanted you to know how proud I am of you, and I can't wait to see you keep winning. You're amazing[:
Thanks to everyone
Thanks for voting. to justg at Holton, I always enjoy visiting the shop when I come to town. And to Peaches, the quilt is scrappy there is no applique, its all pieced. The different reds appear to be on top of the white stripes, but they are just pieced. Thanks for the interest. The pattern is on chesnutquiltco.com.
Go Chestnut!
What a wonderful opportunity to meet you in Holton, Ks at Quilting On The Square. Love the paper piecing you showed.
GREAT DESIGN
Love the precision of the stars with random curves of the stripes & the varied fabric; suttle yet adds so much interest. Did I say GREAT DESIGN, YES! Hope you answer Peaches ?'s.
I love it!! Very clever, unique - I would love the pattern
Breath-taking
I am in awe - absolutely wonderful!
Is it appliqued over quilted squares? Is the red fabric real thin? Its so hard to tell in the picture. We girls here at work love it. Good luck.
