Attaching the Binding

Step 1. Fold one end of binding strip diagonally and press).

Step 2. Begin stitching at the angled end of binding and sew to the 1/4" mark at the first corner of the quilt.

Step 3. Remove the quilt from the machine and turn it 90 degrees. Fold binding strip over itself to form a 45 degree fold. If the fold is done correctly, the edge of the unattached binding will align with the quilt's raw edge. Begin stitching again at the edge of the quilt and backstitch. Continue around the quilt in the same manner until binding ends meet.

Step 4. Turn quilt over and fold binding, covering seam line. Refer to diagrams when folding binding at corners. Pin binding in place and blindstitch to the back of the quilt.

Mitering Corners Question
When you start stitching, the instructions are to start from the quilt edge. Some quilters find that they do not like how the corners turn when they start at the edge, so they start stitching 1/4" in. So the answer is, try it both ways and see which works best for you. Happy quilting! Kathy
Mitering Corners Question
Using the instruction for this lesson, I have one question. In step 3, when you begin stitching again, do you start from the very edge or 1/4" in?
Mitering corners with binding
This is the only instruction I could find using all search engines on my computer. The instructions are easy to understand and answered my questions exactly. This is definitely the best site for quilting instructions.
